Pool
Our last full morning we finally got to swim! We had rejected the Secret Lagoon, but mom couldn't safely shower in our airbnb, so we 'had" to go for it. We went to Kópavogslaug - the nearby municipal pool. It cost around $8 each for Wendy and I, and was free for mom (over 67 years of age). There was a big outdoor pool, another indoor pool, a pool under water slides, and five or six different hot tubs. We soaked and swam for an hour - and wished we'd gotten to do this every day! No pictures allowed - so here's an ariel photo of the facility.
Perlan
Icelandair has many ads for the Perlan museum - the natural history museum in Reykjavik. We visited in December - and I loved it. So despite the expense (almost $50/each) - I took Wendy and mom. It was amazing. A short video showed us volcanic and geothermal activity. An exhibit took us through the timeline of Iceland. A video that walked us through recent volcanic eruptions. A new flyover experience took us deep in a volcano by video. And then we walked through a real ice cave. It's constructed of ice - it's very cold - but it feels very realistic. I loved it. But I will say even I spent more time in there when I was dressed for winter with my snow pants, hat, mittens and down coat.
Google Translate
And we discovered Google Translate. A lot of things in Iceland are in English - but rather a lot of things are not. Feeding Wendy requires reading a lot of food labels. There were also interpretive signs, street signs, and framed sayings around our flat. Google Translate was amazing!
We explored our neighborhood a bit - and got lovely views of the city and the mountains.
Then back to our Airbnb to try to use up all of the rest of our food, pack and clean.
